Make sure to print this template single-sided. You will be making a project with multiple distinct layers with a gap in between.
-
-
-
If you are using the black and white template color the turkey, legs and background.
-
Cut out the turkey, legs, standoffs, speech bubble, and the switch.
-
-
-
Add a piece of double-sided foam tape to the center of the background scene.
-
Stick the motor to the double sided tape making sure the back of the motor (with the wires) is stuck down to the tape and the part that spins faces upwards so it can move freely.
-
-
-
Add Tape Path A. pressing it down atop the blue wire.
-
-
-
Make a loop of tape (sticky side out) using a short piece of Maker Tape, and stick it atop the end of Path A.
-
-
-
Once your tape loop is in place you can add the Battery to it.
-
Make sure the Positive side of the Battery is facing upwards, with the Negative side stuck down to the tape loop.
-
-
-
Add tape Path C. to the top of the battery and onto the template.
-
-
-
Add tape path D.
-
-
-
Add tape Path E. pressing it down atop the red wire.
-
-
-
Add tape path F.
-
-
-
If you haven't made a paper lever switch yet see the guide: Switch - Lever Switch
-
Add the paper switch to the end of Path D. so that the Maker Tape overlaps.
-
Make sure the other end of the paper switch comes in contact with Path F.
-
If the switch does not reach the Path F. tape you can adjust and add more Maker Tape as needed.
-
-
-
At this point you should test the circuit to make sure it works. When you press down on the switch the motor should spin clockwise.
-
If the shaft spins counter-clockwise you can gentle peel up the tape holding the wires down and switch the wires so the red one is going up and the blue wire goes to the right.
-
It is easier to fix the circuit if it is not working before adding the legs and turkey.
-
If it does not spin...
-
Make sure that your switch is making contact.
-
Make sure your motor can spin freely and doesn't have tape or glue impeding movement.
-
-
-
Fold standoffs at dotted lines to create a C shape.
-
Add double-sided foam tape to the 3 white squares on the background scene.
-
Place the standoffs on each of the pieces of foam tape so the inside of the C shape is facing toward the legs.
-
-
-
Add a square of double-sided foam tape onto the shaft of the motor, and then stick the legs to it.
-
-
-
Add another piece of double-sided foam tape to the top of the standoffs.
-
Place the turkey atop the standoffs so the legs are visible at the bottom of the turkey
-
-
-
Choose which speech bubble you want to use. You can use the one that already has "RUN!" printed on it or create your own!
-
Place a piece of double-sided foam tape on either end of the switch. The tape should not touch the switch.
-
If your foam tape is thin, you may want to stack a couple pieces to ensure your speech bubble isn't too close to the switch.
-
Add the speech bubble atop the pieces of foam tape.
-
-
-
Tap the speech bubble to make your turkey's legs spin!
